Travel from Nice to CDG

We will end our travels in Nice on a Friday morning; our flight home leaves from Paris the next day at 10:00. We have booked a hotel close to the airport.

We are considering the following options for Friday travel to CDG:

  1. TGV to CDG - Potential upside is less expense (?), relaxing travel through the French countryside. Potential downside is the inability to request a forward facing seat. Slight motion sickness makes sitting backwards a problem. Are the trains likely to be crowded/full; or will there be options for changing seats/moving into empty seats once we're on board?

  2. Fly to CDG - Potential upside is more time in Nice. Potential downside is more expense, depending on the carrier.

Any and all suggestions/ideas welcomed! Thanks!

I would fly - the train from Nice to Paris is long (and then you still have to get to CDG from Gare de Lyon). If you buy your air tickets far enough in advance, they'll be inexpensive. And in any event may be cheaper than the train.

You didn't mention when this travel is? (how much time between now and when you need to travel?)

There are trains from Nice to CDG that require an easy change at Marseille. The train takes about 7 hours so the flight is the better plan -- I don't find the scenery that fascinating to make it worth a 7-hour trip.

Another vote for flying, without a doubt, seeing as how you are staying the night at the airport. Be sure you book the flight to CDG and not to Orly airport.

We have driven from Paris to Nice, and we have flown. Enjoyed the drive, but it is really long. Train is the same. Be careful at the train station if you decide to take the train. There are a lot of pickpockets around that area. Personally, I would fly if I were you, and enjoy one more day at the beach or at one of the little towns around Nice, which are available by bus.
