Travel from Lyon to Paris

Hello,

Would you suggest plane or train to travel from Lyon to Paris after the final world cup match? We are meeting others there to continue our trip. Thank you

Train, faster, more comfortable and more departures.

I'd do the train in almost all cases -- the actual flying time is 1 hour and the actual train time is 2 hours, but trains depart and arrive much more close in to the city, and obviously you need to build in more buffers for flying (security, boarding, getting into and out/of the city), such that flying is pretty unlikely to be faster than the train.

The only situation in which I'd fly from Lyon to Paris, barring things like train strikes, is to make a connection to another flight at Orly or CDG.

Easily train, but I’d check on tickets as it wouldn’t surprise me if they're quite pricey by now.

Thank you for the quick responses! I guess the easiest/best way to book those are with Rail Europe? Any other suggestions, tips re this? Thank you again.

hey novice
i would also say train. when are you planning this?
you can use:
sncf.com
trainline.com
loco2.com
check the times of departures. the cost good for you, length of trip. stay away from rail europe, a consolidator that is more $$$. if you know what date and time book early, gets more expensive the longer you wait. we like to leave about noon, gives us time to pack, shower, check out, grab a bite to eat, get to train station. you can also buy at station, even take snacks along if you want. have fun and enjoy

No! Rail Europe is a reseller in North America that sometimes doesn't offer all trains, and adds markup.

First choice for buying tickets is always the company running the trains, in this case SNCF.
In the case of SNCF, where the website can take a dislike to foreign cards, use https://www.trainline.eu/ or https://loco2.com/

When will you be travelling (sorry, I am not up to date with World Cup match dates), you may be too early to buy tickets.

The World Cup final is July 7, which is why I said tickets may be getting rare and/or pricey. Tickets for July have been for sale for a while now.

In the unlikely event that tickets are sold out and planes not practical, there is a slow unreserved "TER" train from Lyon to Paris in about 5 hours, you can buy ticket on the day, and get to the station early to grab seats.
