travel from Lisbon to La Charite Sur Loire

Hello, I'm hoping for some advice on the best way to get from Lisbon to La Charité Sur Loire. These are the instructions my friends gave me. "Getting to La Charite via train will mean going through a larger centre first – look for Dijon or Beaune in Burgundy or Bourge, you can get to La Charite from there connecting through Nevers (which is about ½ hour from La Charite)."

I'm unsure which airport to fly into from Lisbon that will make transferring to a train the easiest...or would it be simpler to fly then rent a car. Also, if you suggest renting a car, what is the best way to do it? I live in Canada. Is it better to set up the rental here? Any advice would be appreciated. Melanie

La Charité sur Loire is on the mainline from Paris to Clermont Ferrand. Easiest airport to fly into is Paris-Orly, from where you go to Bercy train station for the train to La Charité. Some are direct, others require a change in Cosne sur Loire or Nevers.
Of course, if you need a car there, might be best to just rent one in Paris-Orly (arrange this from Canada, I recommend using Autoeurope as a broker), and drive south. It's not too far away, 2.5 hours drive maybe.

You're welcome! "local" is relative, can't say I've ever been to La Charité sur Loire (I've been nearby, though).
Forgot to add, that Paris-Orly to Bercy Station is a 35 euro cab ride, or approx 10 euros if you take the Orlybus to Denfert-Rochereau then métro line 6 to Bercy.
And that to buy train tickets from Paris to La Charité, I would buy at the station or on the go, using an app (Oui.SNCF, Trainline or Loco2 work well). There aren't any advance booking savings on that route.
