Have been trying to find a one stop route from the airport to Chartres, finally had to accept there isn't one. Looks like it would be the 350 bus, to Metro line 12 to Gare Montparnasse. Also, the Roissy bus would be an option but connecting to the train station might not be as easy. Any clarity would be helpful. Definitely prefer public transport to getting a taxi or uber.
Thanks in advance.
I prefer public transportation, also. I just take the RER B from the airport to the metro stop “ Denfert-Rochereau”. Then switch to metro 6 in the direction of Charles De Gaulle Etoile to “ Montparnasse Bienvenue”. Take the train to Chartres that begins at “ Gare Montparnasse”. I think it was a little over an hour to arrive at Chartres from that train station.
The 350 bus is not a viable option for travellers..it is very slow, aimed at commuters who work at the airport.
Did a journey planner suggest it to you? It would be odd.
The two main options to travel to central Paris by public transport are RER B, which has some weekend engineering works which close the line from time to time (when are you travelling?), and Roissybus, which gets you to Opéra - not super convenient for Montparnasse.
You're right about this trip being a very difficult one to navigate on buses and/or trains.
Only option would be to rent a car and take the A-10 southwest to Chartres--about 80 miles.
I once spent a morning coming into Paris' rush hour, and swore off traveling through there again. But if you were coming in ona Sunday or the middle of the night, you'd be okay.
It is not complicated -- as someone else noted: RERB to Denfert Rochereau/ metro 6 to Montparnasse (all on one ticket). Then at the Montparnasse train station get a ticket for the next train to Chartres. Not difficult. Certainly cheaper and easier than renting a car you don't otherwise need.
If the RER B is not available due to works, then there is a bus service provided at CDG (with. plenty of buses continuously arriving, filling and departing) which takes you to the RER D at Stadt de France where you can then get into Paris and take the metro to Montparnasse. I have done this bus bypass from the airport and it is very clear easy and smooth (I think more complicated going the other way)
