Travel from Aix-en-Provence to Barcelona

My husband and I are going on the RS Eastern France tour in May. We will end the tour on a Saturday in Aix-en-Provence. I read somewhere that it is possible to travel from Aix-en-Provence to Barcelona by train in about 5 hours. Has anyone done this? I haven't been able to find many train connections and the ones I have found are about 6 hours or more. I'm also not sure if I'm looking at the right train stations. I've been looking at the Aix TGV station to Barcelona Sants. I'm not sure if the train is a good idea or if we should fly. I assume we could fly from Marseilles but I haven't checked into it. We are just starting to plan what we will do after the tour (for about a week) and we've been wanting to go to Barcelona. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

You can fly Marseilles to Barcelona, inexpensively, on Veuling. The MRS airport is easy to use and a relatively short bus or taxi ride from AEP.

It used to be possible, but the direct Madrid-Marseille high speed trains were cancelled due to the pandemic. But they will return soon, no date has been set yet but what has been announced is that they will start running "before the summer"

Until then, the best option is the Paris-Barcelona trains, the closest place to Aix-en-Provence where they stop is in Nîmes.
