We are planning to drive from Turin to Sarlat over two days, so we are looking for a hotel for one night half way between the two locations. Lyon is obvious, but we would like to avoid a big city. Any suggestions? Thanking in advance, Scott

Some of Rick's guided tours also have stayed in Le-Puy-en-Velay for convenience and a pleasant, small-town atmosphere.

Le Puy is indeed a beautiful town with very interesting sites to visit, but if you can' t make it that far in one day, Vienne, just below Lyon is an interesting place with an abundance of Roman ruins. Valence has some too, but is in a different setting and a bit less interesting. We often make that Italy to Paris drive and stop before Lyon. You do want to avoid Lyon.
