We will be in Paris for 8 days in June and would like to visit Giverny, Normandy and Versailles. Does it make more sense to drive and make one big loop, or is it best to do day trips from Paris by train? We have never driven in any country other than USA and we don't speak French.
It's easy to do Versailles as a day trip by train from Paris and I understand some also do D-Day beaches in Normandy as a (very) long day trip by train from Paris. On our June trip, we plan to rent a car at CDG and drive to Bayeux by way of Giverny and spend two nights there and then drop the car in Paris upon our return. Then we'll spend four days in Paris and the last at Versaille via train before heading to Provence and Dordogne.
Versailles and Giverny are easy visit as day trips from Paris; Normandy beaches are not. I would train to Bayeux and spend the night and take an all day tour or half day tour with Overlord or some other vendor and return to Paris. You could certainly drive to Giverny and then drive to Bayeux, do the beaches the next day and then drive back to Paris.
