travel between provence, france to/from amalfi coast, italy

Hi all,

A friend & I are traveling to Europe for 2 weeks, the 1st part of October. We would like to go to Provence & the Amalfi Coast, - a week in each area, if traveling to both places is doable. We're flying from the US.

We don't care which country we start in, but we need to figure out how to get from Italy to France, or France to Italy. We can start from either direction. Plane? Train? Ferry?? - not sure there's a ferry, just thought I'd throw that in.

Thank you for your help.

I've never heard of Volotea Airlines but they fly nonstop (on Thursdays) Naples>>Marseille very cheap so I would do that. Then be sure to fly open jaw into Naples, return Marseille, so you don't have to backtrack.

Simplest would be to fly open jaws into Nice and out of Rome or vice versa. Easyjet flies the Nice/Naples route; flight time is about 1 1/2 hrs. and costs as little as $65. Take the bus from the airport to Napoli Centrale to catch the train to Salerno - trains run often, take about 45 minutes and are inexpensive. From Salerno you’ll have to catch a bus to your final destination on the Amalfi Coast. When leaving, bus to train in Salerno and then a two and a half hour train ride to FCO for your homeward flight.

Unless Susan can get nonstop flights to Rome or Nice (unlikely) it makes more sense to fly closest to the desired destinations (Marseille, Naples) since connecting anyway, than airports hours away from where they want to be.
