Travel between Beaune and Paris

Hello
WE need to travel from Beaune to Paris for an overnight, then fly to Canada the next morning.
At this point and time, I am seeing a train via Dijon with a 5 hour layover in Dijon. That option requires storing luggage and exploring Dijon for 4-5 hours - which might be ok for a walk around and a meal.
OR we could drive from Beaune to Dijon, drop off our rental car and take train from Dijon. Is the drive into Dijon city typically busy or difficult on a Wednesday in October? Would it be possible to drop car at or very near train station?
Is there any other option for a shorter time frame to get from Beaune to Paris? WE are not wanting to drive into Paris.
Thank you so much!

The drive from Beaune is about 45 minutes. I cannot answer the question about traffic generally. I can say that I have driven into DIjon from the south on A31 in the middle of a weekday several times and traffic was not an issue. But I always plan for a drive to take twice as long as the maps say. I do not know which rental car company you are using but Sixt has a branch at the Dijon train station. Either of your options sound good to me and so does waiting a little longer to see the actual train schedule for October. It's a little bit of a walk (about 15 minutes) from the Dijon train station to the Palais des Ducs et des États de Bourgogne.

There should be no need to wait five hours in Dijon, if you're looking at train in October you are way too early. Look up the options for next month instead, they will probably be similar in October.

I think your problem is that October is too far away to show all the trains. Tomorrow, there are at least 3 TER trains every hour from Beaune to Dijon, and it is only a 20 to 30 minutes ride.

Planning too far in advance for train travel often leads to stress and less than optimal decisions. Wait at least until Summer before worrying about this.
