need advise for an itinerary and places to stay- leaving Amsterdam May 5 (holiday), checking in to Paris 3 days later.
What can we do and where to stay to minimize dragging luggage.?
My inclination is to avoid going through Paris by train or flying on the holiday - is that correct?
We would enjoy Giverny, or Loire Valley, or Belgium, but how to arrange it, and where to stay?

May is full of minor ecclesiastical holidays and the only effect we have noticed in many May trips to Paris is that weekend traffic when driving in and out of Paris can be more difficult than usual. But otherwise, this is no issue. May 1 is a big deal holiday in most of Europe. The other May holidays are not.

What holiday is on May 5? If you want to go to the Loire or Giverny from A'dam, it will be pretty hard to avoid going thru Paris.

As Janet said, you would be fine coming to Paris on May 5. The holiday on May 1 brings significant closures, but not the other ones.
