Transportation within Lyon France

My wife and I are staying in Lyon for five days, looking for a six month rental in the future and a French school there. However, the only transportation pass I can find is the "Lyon city card" which is 50 E/person for four days. It does include some free admissions or discounted admissions but still seems very expensive compared to other cities (we paid about 35 E /person for a month of free transportation in Bordeaux last fall). I'm sure we can probably buy a book of ten tickets for 15 E or so. Any other suggestions for transportation only?

Hey there,

I'm heading to Lyon in October, so I've been looking up the public transport options and fares. The Transport for Lyon (TCL) website has great information about how to get around and the various passes. There's 24-, 48-, and 72-hour passes ranging from 6 euro to 15.50 euro. These are NOT the Lyon City Card for tourists, but just your everyday bus passes. Here's the link: http://www.tcl.fr/en/Fares/Fares

Good luck!!

I think the Lyon City Card is one of the best deals in Europe, but the transit pass is only a small part of it. If you are not planning on doing any sightseeing then a plain vanilla transit pass is probably the way to go.

Hello from Wisconsin,
Lyon has a vast bus and subway system.

Most of what you want to see in within easy walking of the Old City of Lyon. Depending upon where you stay, it might mean one ticket into the old city and one out per day. By a packet or per ride. When booking a place, it is worth thinking, does this place require transportation costs due to its location. It might be better to pay more per night and be well located, than to have to transport in and out each day or sortie.

I'm going to he That Person who asks whether you realize that anyone traveling on a US passport needs a long-stay visa to spend more than 90 days within a 180-day period in the group of countriesal constituting the Schengen Zone, of which France is a part.

We are in Lyon now. If you are just interested in transport, the all day card for 6 euros allows you to go all over. You can also buy a pack of 10 tickets for about 17 euros and they are good for one trip each on any mode of transport.
