Staying at Hotel Bowmann in Paris and have scheduled a private tour at Versaille and don't want to be late. What is the Easiest most Dependable transportation to get there early in the morning? Train? Taxi? Uber? Other?

Train, the RER. We took the train from the stop by the Musee D’Orsay. Couldn’t be easier. Rick describes it perfectly in his guidebook. We had 12:00 entrance tickets and got the train before 10. Needless to say, we arrived very early. Just had coffee in the cafe till our time came up.

Take metro line 9 to Alma-Marceau, exit the station and walk across the bridge to the Pont d’Alma stop on the RER C to catch the train to Versailles. Dependable and easy.

If you take the train, make sure you understand which direction you need to go once at the platform. The day we went, many people on the platform were asking which direction headed to Versailles, and almost everyone else got on the first train that arrived (and headed the wrong way). We took the train heading in the opposite direction and got to Versailles OK.

Be aware that there are 2 different "Versailles" stops when taking the RER. I believe that it's the second one, but don't recall precisely. Perhaps someone who has been there more recently can reply with the exact name of the stop that you need to be closest to the chateau.

To be closest to the chateau, you need the Versailles Rive Gauche station on the RER C not the Versailles Chantier station. Versailles Rive Gauche station is about a 10-minute walk to the Chateau.

Another option for you because you are not far from Gare St. Lazare is to walk 10 minutes to St. Lazare and take the Transilien Line L to Versailles RIve Droit station. It is a longer walk to the Chateau but it would have the benefit of not having to change trains.
