For 10 days in Paris with Versaille on my list, would a tourist pass for all forms of transport, zones 1-3 for 5 days twice be the best and then buy or separate ticket for Versaille and airports make since? Or maybe go to Versaille the last day and get a zone 1-5 pass for 2 days to cover the airport too? Or the navigo card?
The Navigo Decouverte Card, which is still in place I believe; is valid from just past midnight on a Monday morning, and is valid for 7 days until the following Sunday at midnight.
It will allow you to go to and from the airport (CDG), and out to Versailles, both on the RER trains.
And , of course, any number of Metro and bus rides.
In my mind, it's the best for a long stay, and you can top it up on the Sunday for more days the following week.
Of course, you need to be arriving on a Monday or Tuesday to make it worth while.
Even on a Wednesday, as you'd still have a few days left to get your money's worth.
You can buy it at the airport on arrival, in that case.
I haven't been to Paris for a couple of years, but I know others here have: and can chime in about some other types of transport passes.
Thank you. Very helpful. If you top it up can you do it for a few days only. Rick in an old book says it is 23 euros. That's very cheap even if it has gone up a little.
please get the latest Rick book, for your sake and his :)
It's ordered but it's not real new. The new one comes out in September. Rick's info on transportation passes is not up to date. I looked on the RATP.fr website and there was nothing about the Navigo Con......pass that was mentioned in a reply today. I can't remember the word without going back. It looks like as far as Navigo passes all they have is Navigo Liberte.
That is the Navigo Decouverte pass. I was really off.
I did find it by googling it directly. I doesn't sound like the airports are included though. I will get for a week and do something different for the 2 days on either end of my week.
Spend some time on this site . For a novice visitor to Paris , it 's great - https://parisbytrain.com/
the ND includes the train from CDG to Paris -- it does not cover the Orlyval -- the overpriced shuttle from Orly to the RER station at Antony.
The ND will take you anywhere within the Ile de france for the period it covers.
Yes, Parisbytrain.com is excellent and explains everything, as steven recommended.
The Navigo Découverte is a card costing 5€. By itself, it takes you nowhere.
You must load the card with one of the Navigo pass options; day, week, month, or Jeunes Week-end; each sold by the zone coverage it offers.
