Transportation from Paris to London

We are taking back to back RS tours. Paris & the Heart of France ending on Friday then 7 days in London starting on Sunday. Will not have a car. Thinking about taking the train from Paris to London. Is that a good option? Will we need additional transportation on either end to get to/from hotels? Is there a better way? Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't think of a better way. Buy in advance to get a decent price.
You are always responsible for "the last mile" when traveling. Hotel to train station and train station to hotel. That is what local transit is for, be it taxi, bus, underground, tram, train, or walking.

Eurostar is best; all border formalities are done before you board so don't be late for the suggested check in times - they won't wait for you and if you check in late you are unlikely to travel.

Bus, tube or taxi to the hotel in London; bus, Métro or taxi to gare du Nord from your hotel in Paris.

The Eurostar is very convenient. Much easier IMHO than flying. Access to public transport or taxis to Gare du Nord in Paris for departure and from arrival at Kings Cross/St Pancras in London is widely available. If you give your departure and arrival hotels, many here will be happy to give you their favorite public transport route, I'm sure!

A couple years ago, my Eurostar return to London from Paris was canceled due to a rail workers strike in the UK. However, all was not lost! Not all departures were canceled and I could easily re-book online thru Eurostar. Use the link provided above to book - book only with the Eurostar folks, not an agency.

I agree that the Eurostar is very convenient and comfortable -- after one actually boards the train. The waiting area at Gare du Nord, on the other hand, resembles the illustrations I've seen in illuminated copies of Dante's Inferno. Several hours spent, standing room only, until one finally is granted access to board.

Premier business allows one to avoid this nonsense for a mere 400 euro premium. Might be worth it.

Thanks everyone for the help. It is much appreciated. We finish up in Paris at the Tourisme Ave Hotel 66 Avenue De La Motte Picquet, Paris, FR 75015 and start in London at Washington Mayfair Hotel 5 Curzon Street, Mayfair LondonW1J .

If you are traveling light like a good RS tourmate, you can walk down to Green Park underground station and take the Victoria line to St Pancras International for the Eurostar to Paris.

In Paris, you will need to make at least one line change to get to your hotel, which is right by the La Motte-Picquet/Grenelle Metro station exit. You might be best taking the No 4 line from Gare du Nord to Odeon and changing there to the No 10 line. You must always be prepared to go up and down stairs with your luggage.

And of course, you can always use taxis.

You have chosen two great tours! We did the former in May of 2017 and the latter in June of 2023. We also stayed at the Washington Mayfair for the London tour; I thought it was a great location. Enjoy both!

Thank you everyone for your help. Looking forward to the trip.

Just to confirm the directions: So if we are going from Paris to London, we would take the No 10 then the No 4 to Gare du Nord. Take the train to St Pancras International and take the Victoria line to Green Park and from there walk to the hotel. We learned to travel light on our RS 28 days in Europe tour and now travel light wherever we go. Thanks again for the help.

Sounds right now that I got my direction straight. Metro entrance is virtually in front of your Paris hotel. You want direction "Austerlitz" on the No 10, and direction "Porte de Clignancourt" on the No 4. People are recommending arriving at Gare du Nord 90 minutes before departure of the Eurostar to London to clear immigration and customs.
