Hi all. We are planning on traveling from Nice to Rome and back to Paris at the end of September, early Oct. From my research, a flight from Nice to Rome takes 2 hrs (vs 8 hours by train), and flight from Rome to Paris takes 2.5 hrs (vs 12 hours by train). 1) What transportation options do you suggest? 2) I am hoping for a boat option from Nice to Rome towards end of September, but cannot find one. Has anyone done it? Thanks!
Flying is the only sensible option.
Rome is not on the water therefore any boat option would need to go to the closest port (Civitavecchia). Since that option (assuming there is one) is even longer than the train, I wouldn't consider it. It takes less time to fly from Nice to Rome than just to travel from the port in Civitavecchia to Rome.
Update.
No boats from Nice to Civitavecchia.
No boats that I am aware of.
The train leaves from Nice-Ville station in the centre, just a short tram ride from most parts.
The airport is about 25 minutes or half an hour from the station, then a 2 hour check-in and at least an hour from touchdown in Rome to the centre, more likely 90 minutes.
So you could be comparing 8 hours by train to 2+4=6 flying. That's close enough for me to call equal - down to personal choice.
