Transportation from Lyon airport to Hotel Celestins

Hello Sheila,
I rarely use Uber in France but read somewhere that the pricing is better than taxi in Lyon.

My driver was very patient and helped me find him by phone after I went out the wrong door of the terminal.
He told me about the area and we had a nice conversation during the drive.
The cost was about 45 euro.

Last year I took Uber from Hotel Celestins to the airport, I think it was like 20 euros.

Edit: I just checked, it was 33 euros, still worth it.

We were there in April and used a taxi. Not remembering price…but worked out well.

Former Lyon resident here, who traveled by air a lot for business.

I always take the RhonExpress tram. It's so simple and convenient. Air conditioned. Comfortable. Plenty of space for bags.

It lets you off at Gare Part Dieu, which has plenty of connections to Bellecour, a short walk from the hotel.

If you're traveling between 15 July to 2 August 2026, inclusive, the line is closed for maintenance work and is temporarily replaced with buses. In that case, I'd probably take a taxi. I'm not opposed to buses, but with luggage they are not as convenient.

My family and I are in Lyon now. I second the train from the airport (we took it without any issues with our 12 yr old, each with a rolling suitcase). Loads of connections at the end and depending on your luggage size, not a bad walk into the area where your hotel is (since you've been sitting for a long time by then).

I'd suggest the fast, comfortable RhoneExpress from the airport to Part Dieu station, then a taxi to your hotel. A good compromise between convenience and frugality. Lyon's Metro is very good, and the Bellecour station is close to your hotel, but after an overnight flight and another one you deserve a break.

I stayed at a hotel close to yours, came into the city by train, and took the Metro to Bellecour with my carry-on. Bellecour is very large and it took me awhile just to figure out where north was and which way to start walking the few blocks I had to go. And I wasn't especially tired.

If you haven't traveled yet, the Rhônexpress, the tram from the airport into the main train station in Lyon, is currently running as shuttle buses (about an hour, as opposed to normally 30 minutes) until mid-August.
