Transportation from CDG to hotel

Does anyone know the best way to get to the Rue Cler area from the airport without spending a fortune? We are Staying at Hotel du Champ de Mars and there are four adults. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Since it will cost 39 euro by public transportation, a taxi at about 60-70% more than that may be worth it, considering it will take you right to the hotel.

From CDG, take the RER "B" to Gare du Nord. Switch to Metro line 4 in the direction Mairie de Montrouge. At the third stop Strasbourg St Denis, switch to Metro Line 8 in the direction Balard and exit at Ecole Militaire and you're less than a block away. RER fare including Metro is 9.75€.

The metro stops closest to your hotel, Ecole Militaire and La Tour Maubourg, are only served by one metro line, so you end up making more connections to get there. As a single traveler, I know that I can walk from Les Invalides to Ecole Militaire with my luggage, so I would probably take the RER B (blue) to St-Michel Notre-Dame and switch to the RER C (gold) to Invalides. However, for 4 people with luggage, a taxi is reasonable, even though it will cost €50-75.

Can I piggyback onto this question? We're renting an apartment on Rue de Grenelle, just a couple of blocks from where Bonnie is staying. From other travel forums, I know that the St. Michel Notre Dame station has escalators to the surface, so I was planning to take the RER that far and then catch a taxi. My concern is that I don't know which nearby subway stops have escalators or elevators, and I don't want to haul heavy luggage up a bunch of stairs (been there, done that). Anybody know if the Ecole Militaire stop has escalators? Also, if advising the RER C line, it appears that the Pont de l'Alma stop is closer than Invalides. Is the suggestion for Invalides due to the elevator/escalator situation? In other words, does Invalides have such conveyance to the surface? Thanks.

Bob, from my many experiences with the Paris metro, just because there is an escalator doesn't mean it's working :-( I've walked up and down the vast majority of the escalators I've come across.

Four people should take a taxi. To that area it was 50 Euro in May. It will cost about the same as public transportation and NO hassle. No brainer.

Assuming you're both flying into CDG:

Bonnie and Bob, here are the links for RoissyBus and CDG to Paris by taxi.

For 4, I'd suggest a taxi (or a shared ride/shuttle bus). One and done, and the price is too close to any other type of transportation you might consider. For 2 (or 4) I'd choose RoissyBus. It's €10 per person, let's you out at the Opéra Garnier, then you descend into the Opéra metro station right in front of the building and take Line 8 Dir: Balard directly to your Rue Cler-area metro stations.

If you choose a taxi, be sure to queue up at the taxi stand at CDG; don't just hop into any ol' taxi (read the info on the Aéroports de Paris website). If taking RoissyBus, be sure to click on the blue link in the center of the page I've linked to above; you'll get a good picture of what the buses look like. I've taken RoissyBus before, and very much prefer it over RER. It was a very comfortable ride, and since you're above ground you get to see Paris as you ride - and that's always a bonus ;-)

Thanks everyone for all the responses. I think we are going to take a taxi or shuttle, since it will be a long day before we arrive in Paris. I was quoted 70 euro by a limo service for the 4 of us and that includes luggage and taxes. I am using the service the hotel recommended. Thanks again!
