Transportation from Annecy/Lyon to Venice

Hi, we are staying in Annecy in March 2017 and need to get to Venice from there. We have looked into flying out (which is our preference) of Lyon and into Venice, but are looking for other suggestions that will get us to Venice by 1pm on a Friday. If we fly out of Lyon, we would need to get to Lyon from Annecy (train/bus). The flight we are looking at leaves at 845am Friday morning. Do the train/bus run early enough for us to get to the airport in time from Annecy? Thank you

The train from Annecy to Lyon Part Dieu train station starts at 6:00 to arrive at 7:52, but that would not leave enough time to get to the airport. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.

A direct bus from Annecy to Geneva would be faster than Lyon or the current train schedule to Geneva, see for instance:

Other companies include Flixbus and SNCF's Ouibus.

I'd suggest flying out of Geneva which is much closer than Lyon.

You may consider checking this website for best deals on European domestic flights: https://www.skyscanner.com/

If you need to be in Venice by 1pm, you may consider getting there the day before.

By doing this, you won't be stressed in case your flight is running late or cancelled (unlikely, but one never knows...)

Hi, I thought about flying out of Geneva, but wasn't sure about crossing lines into Switzerland and having to do anything "extra" to be in that country coming from France, which would add more time. Can you tell me what happens when you cross over into Switzerland to fly out from there?

Since Switzerland joined the Schengen border/visa agreement a few years ago, there should be no border checks. If your passport or visa is accepted in one (as US passports are for a tourist visit), it's also accepted in the other.

Thank you Laura. Does the bus take you directly to the airport or do you have to find transportation from the bus station? Also, how early do you recommend getting to the airport to make sure you do not miss your flight?

With any flightut is recommended to be there two hours aheadb( three for long-haul flights to the US).
