Transportation between Port of Marseille and Aix-en-Provence

Hi,

We are docked in Marseille from 9 AM-6 PM in a couple of weeks. We have a walking tour scheduled for 2 PM in Marseille, but would like to take a trip to Aix-en-Provence in the morning. I've seen there are trains and there is a mention of buses or shuttles on line, but all info I am finding is from 2012 or earlier. Has anyone done this more recently who can guide me on the best way to do this? Will we need a taxi from the dock to the rail or bus station? I see there is a very fast train out of St. Charles station in Marseille that only takes 11 minutes to a TGV station near Aix-en-Provence, but that is 10 miles outside of town. Is it best to try to get there or take a slower train to the heart of downtown? Or is there enough to see in Marseille just to stay there?
Thanks very much,
Shirley

Bus connections from Aix TGV station to the central bus station take an additional 15 minutes, plus connection time. Direct trains from Marseille St. Charles to Aix-en-Provence (center station, plain name) take 35-45 minutes each way. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. I think there's enough to see in Marseille and that this side trip would be a bit harried with your 2 p.m. deadline.

Your time is short to venture beyond Marseille. There is open market strolling and lunch menu of
Bouibase fish stew.
If u are not already going to see the calanques then for sure take a boat tour of them.
Beware Marseille can be gritty, know where u are going.
