I cant find info relating to where the train station is located at the Nice airport ...as well as whether or not that train will go to Avignon? Do I need to go to center of Nice in order to get a train to Avignon?
Does anyone have a suggestion on how we should navigate this journey easily (while very jet lagged.) ..
We hate to drive that distance if we can avoid it the first day while probably lost and confused! .
Yes, you'll need to take a bus or taxi to the Nice-Ville train station, where you can take a TGV train to Avignon TGV station, then transfer to a TER train to Avignon Centre station.
If you aren't planning to visit Nice, before heading to Avignon, have you considered flying into Marseille instead?
Marseille (airport) to Avignon, is a much shorter trip via train, than Nice to Avignon (3.5 - 4 hrs vs 1 - 1.5 hrs)
If you've already booked your flight to Nice, you may consider spending 1-2 nights there before traveling to Avignon.
We took this trip, in reverse (years ago), enroute to Italy.
You may check train schedules here: http://www.sncf.com/en/services/tickets-bookings
Enjoy your trip!
This is a 3-hour trip at best, plus transit time from the airport.
If there is a train station in Nice Airport - where does it go?
Thank you for the suggestion to spend a night and just start fresh the next day... It's good to have someone's insight that has done this!
Taxi to nice saint Augustine station. 5 min.
Train to Antibes maybe 20-30 min.
Train Antibes- Avignon (TGV)
2 1/2 hrs.
St Augustine station just outside the airport (20 to 30 minute walk) is a local commuter station at which all the local trains between Menton and Cannes stop, and it is one stop from Nice Ville. None of the long distance trains (including Avignon) stop there. You would need to wait for the local train to stop and take you to Nice Ville and change.
It really is easier, because of road layout, to take the bus (or in worst case, taxi) to just outside Nice Ville station.
Thank you everyone !!
