We are traveling from Paris to Honfleur in early June and hoping to see Versailles on the day of travel. We plan to rent a car for Honfleur, and can rent it anywhere between Paris and Honfleur (prefer not to rent in Paris to avoid driving in Paris.). We will have luggage with us. Would you recommend:
1. Take train from Paris to Versailles and rent car early morning from Versailles train station to drive to Versailles? (This means luggage can be stored in the rental car.)
2. Take train from Paris to Versailles and rent car closer to Honfleur (Rouen perhaps?) but not sure where to store luggage while we tour Versailles.
3. Another option?
Thank you!
There are a number of places where you can store your luggage while visiting Versailles. Just Google “left luggage Versailles.” Choose a location where drop off and pickup are near the palace and rental car agency.
I have similar question. Is it easy to rent a car in Paris enroute to Versailles and on to Giverny?
We rented a car outside of Paris last month for our trip to Brittany/Nomandy. We ended up renting in Rennes and doing a clockwise trip ending in Lille before dropping off the rental then taking the train to Belgium. That doesn't address what you are looking for, but in my early days of planning, when I first thought we'd go Paris to Giverny; I discovered that a good place to rent a car was at the Mantes la Jolie train station before Giverny. Or of course after Giverny, Rouen is a good bet. Great town. Surprised by the traffic there.
meredith.etheridge,
It might be best to rent your car in Versailles and proceed from there to Honfleur. I say this because I don't think you can get a train from Versailles to Honfleur without backtracking to Paris. (We usually have a car or a relative who drives us, so I don't know much about trains, except that many route through Paris.) Hence, a Versailles rental makes more sense.
Bon voyage!
