I am considering signing up for the RS My Way Alpine tour that ends 9/17/2023. I have another small tour beginning on 9/19 in Aix-en-Provence.
I used the Rome to Rio app for ideas and apparently it will be a long day of buses and trains. Pretty confusing to me - what’s the most time efficient way between the two places? If flying, which airports? My concern is with the multiple bus & train connections I will get lost and/or not arrive to my hotel in Aix!

I’m sure Lyon is a fabulous city but I’m trying simply to get from Chamonix to Aix. I hope someone will address my concern. Thanks. Is it not possible to do this in one day?
Nope, not simple to go from Chamonix to Aix on public transportation in one day.
It takes about 7 hours, whatever route you take. So it is doable, but indeed there are at least 4 legs to the journey.

I have decided not to do back to back tours, meaning that I will plan to fly into Paris and then take 3 or 4 days to make my way south to Aix. I also might spend a night or two in Lyon, explore the city and take a train to Aix. Then I plan to spend 4 nights in/or around Nice to follow the trail of the French Impressionist painters.
The tour will begin with 3 nights in Aix and we move to a chateau in the countryside around Avignon!
I welcome your ideas for things to do in Lyon.
