Transiting Charles De Gaulle

This August we are planning a direct flight, Air France (AF) from Ottawa to CDG and onward to Zurich. The flight arrives at 06:15 at Terminal 2E and departs on AF for Zurich at 08:25 from Terminal 2F.

I believe our bags will be checked though from Ottawa to Zurich and we will only have to go through Passport Control at the airport. I will confirm this with AF.

Based on your experiences, should 2 hrs 10 minutes be sufficient to make this connection.

Of course it all depends on arriving on time and not factoring in any of the current protests continuing until end August that impact airport operations.

Appreciate your advice and comments.

Will you have to go through passport control in France ? I would think since you have a connecting flight you would do that piece in Zurich. The bags should be tagged for Zurich.

You will be going through Passport Control but you will also go through security, which means you will have to open your bag and have them look through it. And make sure your liquids are in a clear plain ziplock bag - otherwise you will have to remove them from your bag and put them in the ziplock bag they give you, which takes time. But since you are checking bags, you will be able to get through there faster.

I do think 2 hours and 10 minutes should be enough, especially since you are checking a bag. I think that going from Terminal 2E to 2F can be somewhat chaotic - at least it was when I made that transit back in May of last year. However, even with the confusion, I made it through in about one hour and 15 minutes, and I had a 7+ hour layover so I wasn't rushing as much as other people.

I would suggest you research CDG's website - there are sites that tell you exactly where you will be going. Also, if you search this forum (just key in "CDG" and "Terminal 2E") you will find dozens of posts from travelers asking similar questions. So you should find some more information on those as well.

Annie, yes, they will have to go through passport control as they are flying from a non-Schengen to a Schengen country.

Switzerland is a Schengen member, so by my understanding, passport control would happen at CDG, as this would be your entry point to the Schengen zone.

In 2019 I flew in from SFO - CDG and had a 2hr. 5 min. transfer time to catch my AF flight to Zurich. Made it with no problem. Changing from Terminal 2E to 2F I did have to go through a security check again, carry-on x-rayed and a passport check. Bags checked all the way to Zurich since both flights were with Air France.

Enjoy your trip.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I feel more confident now about the connecting time. Before logging on I was in an online chat with AF but got bumped off, so I will try later.

I'll also check out the CDG website as suggested.

Thank you again

Steve, I timed myself last fall on a transit from 2E to 2F because someone in our local meet up group was going to try and make it in 1h5m. It took me 1h10m from the time I stepped off the plane at a remote stand at 2E (have to be shuttled to the main area) to when I was at my 2F gate. I didn't run but walked moderately fast for an old person pulling a wheelie bag, hahaha!

I'd like to give a thumbs up to Mardee's post!!

As she says, be ready for security in 2 F which is located before you get to the passport control. The guys at the head of the security line were standing there holding zip lock bags to give to people to put their liquids in so you'll do yourself a favor if you've got liquids already in a ziplock and easily to hand. Ditto electronics. Have them stashed so you can easily get out tablets/laptops for security.

You've got plenty of time but don't make a comfort stop until you get to 2F and are thru security and passport control.

Is it me, or does the security line at CDG always smell like smoked salmon?
