I am looking on transit advice (Sept. 2026) on getting from the Marseille airport to Hotel La Rade in Cassis. First, I know we will have to travel from the airport to the train station. Is this an easy /safe trip? I see that there are trains (2 per hour?) to Cassis, but have read that it might be difficult to get into the town. Are those local busses reliable? Then we would need to get close to the hotel. Would anyone suggest taking a bus from Marseille as it might stop closer to the hotel? We will then need to reverse the trip, but going to Avignon. Any advice would be very welcome.
If you want to splurge, for about 75 euros you could hire Bolt (like Uber) from the airport to your Cassis hotel. Have you checked with your hotel to see if they have any recommendations?
Re return trip. Bus or Bolt to Gare St. Charles. It's a short train trip from there to Avignon. TGV also I believe, or regular train. It takes 35-45 minutes.
The buses from Marseille to Cassis leave from Castellane, so there is an extra step: the metro between St Charles station and Castellane in Marseille. Not ideal.
There are buses (line M1) from Cassis train station to central Cassis, so it is not hard to take the train.
I would take the airport bus to Marseille St Charles first, then the train to Cassis.
Thanks all. After a bit more research, I agree that I should take the airport bus to the train station in Cassis and then a local bus to a stop near our hotel. I have read that the local Cassis bus runs hourly (hard to imagine that it's not more frequent) into town. We would have a 6-8 minute walk with luggage to the hotel.
