We are driving from the South of France to Versailles and dropping our rental car there. We are staying overnight in Versailles and going into Paris the next day. The closest station to our hotel is the Gare Saint -Lazare, so it looks like it will be better to take the Transilien L Line rather then the RER C. Has anyone used the L line? Is it alright to take luggage on this line? It looks like it is more of a commuter line, so would weekday mornings be bad to take it? Any insight appreciated!
It is a commuter railway, but Versailles Rive Droite is the start of the line so you should get good spots. This said, with luggage please wait until 9.30 am to take the train, the commuter crowds will start to ease off then.
Your hotel will probably not be ready early anyway, so take a leisurely morning in Versailles for breakfast and relaxation and travel outside of rush hour. If you are arriving noon or so, your room might even possibly be ready.
Yes, I took this line all the time years ago. It is more of a commuter line, but of course locals will sometimes have luggage as they head for their own trips. So just take it whenever you are ready that morning. No one will give you a sideways glance.
