My husband and I will be catching a train in May from Gare de Lyon in Paris to a town in Provence where we will rent a car. We will drive from our rental car town to Gordes for our first night in the area. Where is the best location to rent our car from after our train ride....Avignon? Am ready to buy train tickets and need advice on the best town to train to and rent a car.
Thanks for your help! Any other Provence suggestions will be appreciated. We are 4 nights in Gordes and 4 nights in St. Remy de Provence and plan to frequent a lot of markets and small towns.

I think Avignon TGV would be best. I'm sure they have more cars than Avignon Center, and you won't have to deal with Avignon traffic.
