Two of us will be traveling to Strasbourg for the Christmas Market early December. I have been looking on sncf-connect.com-english. The train I got-mid morning to later evening on Friday the 2nd, under 2 hrs is running 78E each way for two. Is this the standard lowest rate, purchased 4 months out or should I wait a bit? Any other suggestions I need to know about about this trip?
Thank you for your help
Impossible to answer without knowing where you are travelling from.
I assume this is from Paris: 39 EUR one-way per person is a good fare (lowest would be 29 EUR). I would buy it.
So sorry, I left off start of trip. Gare de I'Est ,Paris.
If you are absolutely sure of your date, then grab it. That's a pretty good price. Be mindful of the restrictions on the ticket.
What restrictions besides location, date and times? Thanks
Change fees / Cancellation fees is what was meant by "restrictions".
But if this is a "TGV Inoui" and not a "Ouigo", there should be no fees up to D-3 inclusive, if D is departure day.
The prices will only go up, so if you are sure of your dates, go ahead and purchase.
or wait till you get to Paris and pop into any train station and buy the tix you need. I bought mine the day before I went to Strasbourg. look into the various discount "cartes" to see if they make sense (I bought mine on sale and it did help).
For anyone traveling to Strasbourg from Paris at the time of the Christmas markets, I strongly recommend against waiting until you are in country to buy your tickets. You will pay astronomical prices -- if you can even find any seats. (Even more so for someone wanting to travel on a Friday to go to Strasbourg from Paris in December.)
Just to say thanks to all for the information. After reading, I went ahead with the 3 ticket purchase I needed going the opposite direction in early December, since I knew for sure date and time. I didn’t get it as cheaply as this but am good with the price I got.
