Where to store luggage near Pontorson Train Station while visiting MSM on way to Saint Malo

Hello!
We are spending 2 nights in Bayeux then heading to Saint Malo. On the way, we want to stop off for a few hours in Mont Saint Michel. I was hoping to take a train to Pontorson, store our luggage at the train station while we visit MSM and then train on to Saint Malo. Unfortunately, there is no luggage storage at the Pontorson Train Station. Is there anywhere to store luggage near the train station so we don't have to lug our luggage into Mont Saint Michel? I would love to not have to rent a car since we will only need it for 1 day and the one way rental fee makes it much more expensive. However, I am thinking this is my only option since we have luggage. We can't do a daytrip from Bayeux to MSM because we have already scheduled 2 full day tours to Normandy.
Thank you!

Google maps indicates that you could get to MSM from Saint Malo by bus. The distance is about 33 miles. Maybe that would work for you?

We were hoping to stop off in MSM as it is on our way from Bayeux. I just don't want to have to bring our luggage into MSM. I feel like we would be backtracking to go back to MSM from Saint Malo. Thank you for the idea though

Have you checked with Autoeurope for a car rental? I have never found the drop off fee for a different location in France to be expensive. Alternatively, have you checked the price of a bus ticket from St, Malo to MSM for a day trip from there? Even if backtracking, it may be worth it for the piece of mind regarding your luggage. Knowing the price of full day tours in Normandy, I can't imagine a one day car rental fee to be onerous in comparison. However, Bayeux doesn't have much in the way of car rental options, being small. I wish you luck.

To me a 33 mile bus trip would be an easy choice. Living in So. Calif., we readily drive 70 mile for a restaurant. For the chnce to see Mont St. Michel, I would go twice that far by bus.

We just have 1 night in Saint Malo then taking the ferry to Jersey, so it is not possible to do a day trip from Saint Malo. I rented a car for the day which is $200+. We have to take a train to Caen to pick up the car. and we will just store our luggage in the car while we tour MSM.
Thank you for all your help!!

It might be a bit late, but there is luggage storage at the foot of the Mont, 200 metres away from where the Pontorson bus stops.
So you have to take it on the bus with you, but you don't have to lug it far.
Then I think you can take a bus from the Mont to St Malo, but for those, you need to take the shuttle to the mainland first. A small hassle, but not a huge deal.

Regarding the car, if you stick with that plan:

  • it is really nice to have one in Bayeux as well, so how about renting it on your way to Bayeux, when you pass through Caen?
  • make sure you get IDPs, mandatory in France

Regarding buses to St Malo, please double check. There's a Keolis excursion bus from St Malo but it looks like it's round-trip only, leaving Flixbus and BlaBlaBus as the alternative operators on that route.
If there's nothing on your date, you'd have to backtrack to Pontorson and take the train again, by which point the comfort of a rental car might be worth the extra cost...
