I have checked on the Bene site but there seems to be no train to this town from Paris. Can anyone tell me if I took the train to Le Havre , Deauville or Bayeaux - which one would be closet to Honfleur or would I need a car?

The most convenient station is Le Havre. There are reasonably frequent buses from Le Havre to Honfleur (line number 39 if not mistaken), or a cab won't break the bank either (cheaper than renting a car)

Flixbus operates buses that go direct from Paris to Honfleur in 3 hours 3 times a week.

These bus options do seem attractive, as they would be a little bit faster than Paris to Le Havre by train, then bus to Honfleur!
I did not know about them.

We did the train to Le Havre-bus to Honfleur it was a no brainer.
