We're flying from London Heathrow to Marseilles next week then taking the train to Arles. Can we get a train at the airport that goes direct to Arles? If so, can we walk or is there a shuttle bus? Or do we need to go to city center Marseilles? Best to order tickets now or buy at the station?
Yes, you can get a direct train from MRS to Arles. Trip takes about 3/4 of an hour. No need to purchase tix in advance.
And there is a shuttle bus to the Vitrolles Aéroport station where you take the train to Arles. It should be well signposted - the shuttle used to stop between the two main halls of Terminal 1, but there's been a lot of works around the airport in the past few years so I do not know where it is now.
I've walked in reverse once when protests were blocking the airport road: doable in a pinch with light luggage, but involves walking a mile and crossing busy highways with little provision for pedestrians. I do not recommend it!
Thanks, I figured there would not be sidewalks in stretches.
