Best way to get from Paris (fastest/most economical) to Amboise for the day and Versailles for the day.
I would read the section in Rick's books that deals with these.
If that is not possible, a very simplified explanation is:
Versailles is an easy day trip from Paris, but Amboise is not as easy to do in one day. For Versailles, this will involve relatively easy planning, where you will take what is called the RER train to Versailles. But be prepared for large crowds and waiting in line, especially if going to Versailles in the summer or on a weekend.
For Amboise and the Loire Valley, if you are forced to do a day trip, you probably will want (depending on your prior experience level with European travel) to arrange in advance for a one day trip with Viator or one of the other tour organizations. This will simplify your planning for a day trip to the Loire valley from Paris.
Kent is right. Versailles is easily reached by RER train from Paris. Amboise on the other hand does take longer but still doable. There are a couple direct trains per day to Amboise, taking about 1.75 hours, while most trains will take about 2-2.5 hours with a change in St. Pierre de Corps. Look on www.bahn.com for schedules to Amboise. Also, take a look at Rick's France or Paris book on tips for avoiding lines at Versailles. Sometimes going later in the day can make all the difference. I hope this helps some.
thank you! I think after all the advice and your tips we are going to skip the Loire valley this trip. Its too hectic and we rather stay and enjoy Paris.
