Train tickets Chartres to Paris

Hello,
Forgive me if this has been recently asked. We will be dropping our rental car in Chartres and then catching the train to Paris. It sounds like we really don't need to buy our tickets ahead of time from what I have read. Have you found this to be true? I am unsure exactly what time we'll be done in Chartres and hate to lock into a specific train time. I couldn't see where the ticket was good for the whole day, so was unsure about all of this. Thanks for your help.

These are TER trains and unreserved. You may even get a 25% discount if you are over 59 and traveling off peak. Validate the ticket before boarding. They run about every hour.
