train tickets and reservations

All TGV trains (InOui is a rebranding) come with an assigned or reserved seat in whatever class you choose both 1st or 2nd class.
It can be more accurately described as everyone who buys a ticket gets a mandatory seat assignment than as a reservation

Nope, that is only if you bought one of those Eurail passes which is a 3rd party, a source of a lot of confusion here on the forum. Did you buy a Eurail pass?

Eurail passes are obsolete like traveler's checks -- there is almost no scenario where having one is of value. So scope it out carefully before buying one. The best prices usually occur when you buy tickets well in advance.
