train ticket purchases or Paris Vision

We would like to see Vaux le Vicomte and Fontainbleau on day trips. We have already been to Paris 3 times, but we will be jet lagged so I need to gather my info now to plan our 3 day itinerary in Paris.

Do I just go to the train station and purchase a same day or is the train crowded and I need to purchase in advance? We would not do both in one day due to our age.

The RS book also mentions that I can combine them both into one day. Anyone have experience with this bus tour to the two sights? We could catch up on our sleep on the bus.

You would be hard pressed to do bothin one day by public transport.

Take the tour, book online, tours do not always run each day so plan ahead. I hope you realize this is not what you should be doing on your first day.

I would choose one or the other and do them on my own; we find that tours do not allow us enough time to enjoy a place. They are similar enough that I'd devote serious time to one and choose a different day trip if you want another day trip. Here are a few, including Vaux le Vicomte:

Vaux le Vicomte now has a shuttle bus; here is the link that describes it.

Note this is not from the Melun station.

These type trains do not sell out and do not sell cheap tickets, you can buy them when you need them. I like to buy tickets at once for several trips but you can get it the day of travel and there are fairly frequent trains to these places. We loved Vaux le Vicomte; Fontainebleau was fine but not quite as stunning a garden.
