train strikes while in Paris

Our family of 4 will be in paris next month, during 2 of the days the train strike will be on. My question is will we still be able to travel to and from to Versailles and Euro Disney to our hotel Excelsious Latin? What method of travel should I be looking for or am I reading correctly that there would be one train per day to these locations. Thank you!

The train from Disney to Paris is not affected; the RER A east of the city is running normally. the RER C to Versailles is affected and I would not plan a trip to Versailles on a strike day myself. And if the kids are young, I would not do Versailles anyway -- the chateau visit is a nightmare and triply so for a kid in the crush. (the gardens and estate are lovely for kids).

I concur with Janet! We just took the RER A to Disneyland on a strike day and it was not a problem at all. Left Paris at 8:30a and got back on the train around 5:00p. No issues. Have fun!

Thanks, My "kids" are 30 and 31 LOL...Unfortunately we already had purchased tickets to Versailles so we will need to find another option to get there as it is now on a strike day...Anyone have any suggestions?

Take metro line 9 to Pont de Sevres and change there for bus 171 — easy peasy and cost is 2 t+ tickets per person each way. On the way to Pont de Sevres, being in the front of the train puts you at the exit that leads to the bus stop. You can easily find the bus stop if you exit from the back of the station but it is a bit easier if you are at the front. Bus route is from Pont de Sevres to Versailles so you get on at the first stop on both trips. For your specific trip, walk over to Odeon metro stop and take line 10 to Michel-Ange-Auteuil and change there for line 9.

Going to Versailles on a strike day might actually be brilliant.. might mean less people there.

My travel companions went on a strike day (Saturday). I don't like visiting Versailles and did not accompany them but I took one of my companions there last year and she went again this year. Coincidentally, we went on the same Saturday in May last year that she went this year and my friend said that while Paris felt more crowded this year, Versailles felt slightly less crowded than last year. It's anecdotal evidence but it could be that the strike had an impact.

My two cents: When I visited in early October, 1 1/2 years ago, rain was forecast. There wasn't anything approaching a crush of people in either the palace or the garden. Very little rain materialized but it seemed as if everyone who planned to visit decided not to because of the forecast. I brought an umbrella but had to check it because it wasn't a fold up type. If you bring an umbrella, the folding type are fine to keep with you.
