Train options from Dijon to CDG?

Hi All,

Been trying to understand train options to get from Dijon (mid day departure) to CDG ...

Looks like can't resv best route via SNCF for the entire trip, but need to resv Dijon to Paris Gare de Lyon (TGV), then local A or D to Chatelet Les Halles and then Local B to CDG?

Would appreciate some confirmation or discussion of better options on this!

Thanks!

Looks like that is your only option. Or get a taxi at GdL to CDG.

Taking the RER A to Les Halles, the RER B trains are an easy cross-platform transfer. Just make sure the RER B train is going to the airport as not all RER B trains go there. Destination will be in front of the train as well as on the platform overhead monitors.

It is always prudent to come in the night before a high stakes flight. Stuff happens. And a minor delay can be a disaster when you are trying to go long distances and catch a flight. If your flight is outside europe e.g. US or Oz etc then you need to be in check in line 3 hours ahead. If it is a domestic/within Europe flight 2 hours ahead. You can come in quite late the night before and sleep at an airport hotel -- or you could come in in the afternoon and get a hotel near the RER B and enjoy an evening and nice meal in Paris. It is risky to try to do it on the day of the flight.

Years ago we were o a Thalys from Amsterdam which is 3.5 hour trip; someone jumped in front of the train near Rotterdam and the train came in 5 hours late. Stuff happens. We hve also been delayed by last minute strikes or technical issues. A day trip last year turned into a real slog when tracks were having technical difficulties and each leg of our trip was delayed by a few hours.

Stuff can happen like last-minute train delays and the occasional last-minute RER strikes which once hit me when trying to get to CDG. My rule is same as janettravels44 — stay in Paris the night before your flight if you can.

Correct. Dijon does not have direct trains to the airport. Your only other option is going south to Lyon and then take a direct train, but this route has fewer options.

Where I live, all of our TGVs go up the Rhone Valley and through Burgundy to get to Paris. About 50% of the time we are late. So, as suggested above, you should sleep in your departure city the night before, either at an airport hotel or in Paris.

Yep - going out of CDG the next day ...

I am unable to see a listing by time of the A/D out of GdL, or the B out of CLH on the SNCF site ... is there a trick of some sort?

These trains are continuous, like subway trains. Every 7 to 8 minutes.

There is a schedule. Here is the one for the RER A.

And here is the one for the RER B.

But in practice, you just buy a ticket, from a ticket window, or a vending machine, or an app, Cost is 13 EUR. Go to the platform for the westbound direction and get the first RER A that comes along. Get off at the next station (Les Halles) and take the next RER B, across the platform that goes to the airport. About 1 hour from GdL to CDG Term 2.

Great stuff, Sam! Thank you!!

Eye chart time - but, I see how simple - at least the explanation - gotta learn how the schedule works, but the line drawings are great to orient oneself.

Confirming ... ticket purchased at Paris Gare de Lyon is for destination CDG - and this ticket is good for transit on both the A and B TERs ... separate tickets not required?

And, could one take EITHER the A or D to Chatelet Les Halles, or only the A?

With the D, you will have to change platforms by taking an elevator up to the mezzanine level, then an elevator down to the platform for the B, but if you take the A, you just walk across the platform. One ticket covers you from GdL to CDG.

The way it works, your ticket will open the gate to get you to the RER platform at GdL, You need to use your ticket to open the gate at your destination to exit.

Hi Again ... this is mainly for Sam because of what is obviously a great amount of knowledge!

Another of our group in Dijon is going to spend a few days in Reims, and then train to CDG. Options:
1. 0836-0931 or 1736-1906 : TER from Reim to Champagne-Ardennes, then TGV all the way to CDG 2 TGV station
2. 1945-2116: TGV to Paris Est and then TER to CDG 2
3. 1519-1805: TER to Epernay, then TER to Paris Est, then TER to CDG

Am I reading the options correctly?

I really like option 1 best but wanted a mid day departure which doesn't look available - however, it looks pretty darn easy!

What are your travel dates? French schedules can vary quite a bit depending on the date.

BTW option 2 & 3 require a walk from Paris Est to Gare du Nord (or a short trip on the Metro Line 4 or 5). Don't mix up TER and RER. TER is a French regional train. RER is Paris suburban trains which operate like the Metro within the Paris city center. There is no TER from Gare de l'Est to CDG. It is the RER B from Gare du Nord, about a 15 minute walk from Gare de ;l'Est.

On Oct 22, there is a direct TER from Dijon to Reims at 18:05 taking 3 hr and 46 min.
On Oct 26, the TER departure is at 8:06 to Champagne-Ardenne TGV, the TGV still arrives at CDG at 9:31. Should be good providing flight is not the same day.

I was talking about how the second group was getting from Dijon to Reims. But them you have not really outlined your group(s)'s itinerary.

Ah ... I understand. Thanks.

Second group (actually wife and I) leave Dijon on 23 Oct for Reims, three nights, then train to CDG on 26 Oct, for 27 Oct mid day flight back to US.
