Train Help From Nice to Lake Como?!!

Hi Everyone!

I am trying to figure out the best website to buy a train ticket from Nice-Ville to Varenna Esino in Lake Como and unsure where to begin. Is there a best website to buy from for taking trains from France to Italy?

Along with this question, does anyone have tips on navigating the train stations when it comes to transfers? I have taken trains in Italy before and always have had difficulty making my connection because I cannot figure out which platform it is leaving from in time! Is there an app or easy way to tell what platform your trains are taking off from?

Thank you in advance! I am traveling next month and this is my biggest worry!

I would use Trenitalia.com starting from Ventimiglia to Varenna-Esino. There are frequent trains between Nice and Ventimiglia. There is an IC train from Ventimiglia to Milan at 9:10 am, and a local French train that departs Nice Ville at 7;50 am. arriving at Ventimiglia at 8:43 am.

Sam is correct. Use the SNCF site for the ticket from Nice Ville to Ventimiglia. Then the Trenitalia website for Ventimiglia to Varenna Esino. The latter will require a change of trains in Milano Centrale.

Most of the rail companies now have an app that will tell you what platform to use for your train. Barring that, you could ask the conductor before leaving your train at the connecting station, Or follow the signs to leave the platform and look for the train arrival/departure board which will list the upcoming trains and their tracks.

If you are newish to European trains and stations, have a look at the Man in Seat 61 website for more information on navigating the systems. https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-routes/nice-to-italy-by-train.htm#changing-trains-at-ventimiglia
