Train from Strasbourg to Paris in late September

Hi! I would appreciate any advice on travelling from Strasbourg to Paris in late September.
We are staying in the Montmartre area. After looking online at the SNCF website for train tickets, I have a few questions for those seasoned rail travelers:

  • How far in advance do we need to buy tickets?
  • Which station would be best to arrive in Paris for convenient access to Montmartre?

I see many choices on the SNCF website for rail stations in Paris from Strasbourg and have no idea. For consideration, we are 2 adults with 2 carry-ons and 1 suitcase between us.

Thanks in advance! :)

Your train from Strasbourg will arrive at Gare de l’Est unless there is a problem of some sort. You have no choice in your arrival (or departure) station in Paris. Each of the long distance train stations serves a specific region. Coincidentally for you, Gare de l’Est is close to Montmartre. Tickets generally go on sale 3 months before the date of travel. The less expensive tickets sell out but they usually are less flexible meaning that there is a charge for changing them.

Amazing! Thanks for this info - really helpful! I'll check back for tickets closer to our date then.

Montmarte is extremely hilly. As a backup I would download the G7 Paris taxi app. It's very user friendly and you can request an official very professional Paris taxi once you arrive. I'm not familiar with the rail station, so maybe there is also an official taxi line at your rail station as well. But the G7 app is very useful to have everywhere for Paris but particularly in Montmarte; and sometimes convenience is the way to go!

I also found the SNCF app useful while we were traveling in France as well. Liked having the tickets on the app. So two app recommendations from someone who really doesn't find apps always friendly!

There is a taxi stand at Gare de l'Est. It is a good idea to have the G7 app downloaded for when you need a taxi during your trip. Depending on where you are staying in Montmartre and how much you like using mass transit, you might be able to take the metro from the station to a stop near your accommodations. It's also walkable depending on your fitness level, how much you like walking uphill and exactly where you are staying in Montmartre.

Great advice! I will download both apps. These tips are so very appreciated - thank you!

I may need to start another thread for the other leg of our journey if I can't find my answers already posted! ;)

So glad to have found this forum!
