Which train line and/or station should i search to purchase the ticket please?
Also is there a rental company at the train station in Colmar? Or should I look somewhere else when I get there? what rental company should I look for?

Just search PARIS, or Paris (all stations). But to cut to the chase, the direct TGV's go from Gare de l'Est. And yes, there is a car rental at Colmar station, Avis, I believe.
Hi,
To buy tickets you can use oui.sncf (official French railways) or www.loco2.com (reseller with no fees), searching from Paris Gare de l'Est to Colmar. As for rental companies: Auto Europe is a well regarder broker, do a search there and you will be able to compare quotes from Colmar Station based rental outfits.
To get to Colmar you need to go through Strasbourg. We found that renting a car from Europcar in Strasbourg was about half the price of Avis in Colmar. It’s about a 50 minute drive. And we got train tickets on ouigo.com. It was cheaper than the TGV.
I purchased my ticket from Paris to Colmar through Trainline - Paris-Strasbourg-Colmar. The first leg is through Ouigo and I'm a little concerned about the specifics of printing the ticket (on A4 paper it says) or downloading it through the app. I hope that it goes smoothly. They already sent my ticket for the second leg of the trip.
Don't worry about the paper size for printing tickets--US 11x8.5 works just fine, I've done it many times.
THANK YOU SO MUCH everyone!!! Very helpful
If you use OUIgo be very sure to comply with all their rules, especially luggage and check in time.
Thanks for the advice about the paper size. They make it sound like it's mandatory. I'm hoping to download the ticket on the app but I like to have things printed too just in case.
I googled "car rental colmar france" and it looks like there are several options, but only Avis looks like it's near the train station. Consider taking the train to Strasbourg instead - you'll have more options there and maybe better prices too.
We picked up a rental car in another area (Champagne) and drove though-out France. Point being - we stayed in Colmar and then drove the car back to Strasbourg train station to return. It was an Avis rental. This worked out to be a lower cost and very convenient. One caution - our train from Strasbourg was very early am and thus, we had to return the car before Avis office was opened. It was a bit of a nightmare, in the dark and rain, pressed for time, but we eventually we read the fine-print - and checked with nearby hotel lobby the right place to drop the car "off hours". Don't discount the time needed for car drop-off is the take-away! Strasbourg was best and most cost effective drop off point for us, albeit pick up in Champagne. From the US, we've used Avis a number of times and have found them to be good. Not always the best, so we have use others, depending on country to visit, but in France, we've had good price and customer service with Avis.
