Train from Paris to Sisteron advice needed

Just starting my research and would welcome advice. We plan on taking the train south, with our destination being Sisteron. We would train to a larger centre (ie: Avignon, Arles..) and then rent a car to get us to Sisteron, so that we would have the car for the week we are there to explore the area and further south. After our stay, return the car to ??, train back to Paris. The one couple will fly out of CDG and we will carry on to possibly Caen or ,Bayeaux for an extended stay in Normandy. Any help and suggestions to ease our way on this plan would be welcome.

I suggest TGV to Aix-en-Provence and rent the car there. Sisteron to Caen or Bayeux is about 10 hours of driving so I would return the car in Aix and take the train to Paris. Then go across town from the arrival station, Gare de Lyon, to Gare St-Lazare for a train to Caen and rent another car there.

I would take the TGV to Aix and rent the car there as stated above. Then it is a 1 hr drive to Sisteron. This is faster than any train into Sisteron which would require at least 2 changes and 6 hours.
