Train from Paris to Rouen

I am going to Paris in September and would like to do a day trip to Rouen. It's been many years since I used the local trains to travel to another city so I'm wondering if things have changed. If I buy a paper ticket, do I still have to validate the ticket on the platform before entering the train? I'm assuming on the local trains, there is no reserved seating? If I use the sncf app to buy my tickets, how does my ticket get validated assuming I would need to validate like a paper ticket? Thanks you in advance for any help provided. Eric

If you buy a ticket on the app, it will be an e-ticket and so there is no possibility of validating it on the platform. Some trains between Paris and Rouen require seat reservations and some do not. You will see on the app which ones require seat reservations and which do not. TER trains do not have seat reservations.
