Hi .
We need to take a train from Paris to Marseille on a specific morning in mind September. Will more spaces open up between now and then and should we go ahead and book whatever we can ? Thanks for any clarification.
Without knowing your specific date, I picked a random day in mid Sept on the SNCF Connect website and found around 20 trains with available seats. If you are sure of your date, you might as well book now while seats are still available. The fast trains can and do sell out.
We took a TGV from Paris to Marseille and were pleased with the speed and comfort. We did book first class, but did it early to get a good price. I seem to recall it was 552 euros for four people. We booked about 2 months before. It left about 10:30 a.m. and arrived less than 4hours later, if I recall correctly. So nice to not have multiple stops.
"spaces" do open up closer to travel, except on the day itself when lots of businessmen with flexible tickets often cancel at the last moment.
So best is to assume that tickets will only get more expensive the longer your wait. If you are not seeing the usual number of trains on your travel date then maybe something special is going on. Just tell us your date, and we may be able to help you better.
(This is a reminder that when asking for help with train travel always mention your actual travel date...)
You can also take Trenitalia on that route. They just started serving it a few weeks ago,.so maybe people don't know about it and there are still tickets left.
Wow ! Thanks for all the quick replies! We decided to go ahead and book so we could get a (not TOO early ) morning train.
I will keep your advice about posting the actual date for future reference.
