Train from Paris to Bayeux for DDay Tours

We will be in Paris in August and have booked a D-Day Tour that picks up guests from the Bayeux train station. It seems the SNCF has cancelled the train we had planned on and now would need to leave Paris at 5:48AM. Taking the train times currently posted we would have an almost 16 hour day. We are now considering booking with a tour that transports from Paris. Has anyone done the early train? How was it? Any comments from those who have done tour departure from Paris? Any comments/suggestions appreciated!

That's rotten luck, but I wonder whether the train you were planning to take will reappear on the schedule shortly. I would definitely not give up the idea of the full-day tour (I assume with Overlord) yet.

Rather than getting up a 4 AM (?) to get the early train, I'd be looking at spending the night before the tour in Bayeux. However, I'm crossing my fingers that you'll be able to take the later train after all.

Not exactly what you are asking, but f you can rearrange and train to Bayeux the previous day, I would do that. You should be able to find accommodations near the station, go see the tapestry, and find a nice place for dinner.

The D-Day tours are well worth it, but a long day. When we went, it seemed to me the tours from Paris took quite a chunk of time from actually seeing the sites just to get to and from Paris.

Either Bayeux or, a little further distant, Caen, would offer a convenient night stop and easy pre-tour breakfast. Go from Paris early enough to stroll these historic places the afternoon before your tour. You probably know about the Bayeux tapestry. Caen is the home of William the Conqueror's fortress-palace, worth a gentle walk-around.
