I heard somewhere that the northern half of the train line between Nice and Digne is closed. Does anyone have that information? If so, any suggestions on alternate routes to Digne or Sisterone?
Yes, the last stretch is replaced by a bus service "until further notice". But you can still take the train, you simply have to switch to that bus when the train stops. https://tourisme.trainprovence.com/fiche-horaires-interurbains/ for times.
Be aware that Digne is not linked to the mainline SNCF network, you'll need another bus to get out.
Thank you! I was unable to get on the website yesterday, so the link was helpful. It seems to go about 3/4 of the way, so that will work We have a ride from Digne to Sisteron (our ultimate destination).
Do you know if this is a special bus just for the train? Can we come in on the train, stop for awhile, then pick up a later bus?
Usually replacement buses are specific to the the train, at least that is my experience in Germany. The bus is sitting there when the train arrives, and when everyone gets off the train and on the bus, it departs. Don't know if they check tickets again. Assuming it is a TER, the ticket is good for a certain amount of time after you validated it in the platform stamping machine. How much time is unclear, so it may be good for the day. Best to ask someone in authority before trying this. Without digging through the Conditions of Carriage, its hard to know for an amateur like me.
