Train connections from Strasbourg to CDG and...

Greetings Hive - Planning a trip to France for next April. I’ll be joining an eight day barge trip departing from and returning to Strasbourg. I’ll be going early to spend a few days in Paris, including a day trip to Giverny, and two nights in Colmar before joining my Road Scholar tour group. Road Scholar air routing options are horrific, so I’m purchasing all my own transportation and have several questions, particularly about my return from Strasbourg.

Disembarkation from the barge is at 9 am. I understand that it takes about 15 minutes to get from the dock to the train station. Would it be safe to book a train at 10am? This train would get me to Charles de Gaulle airport at about noon and allow me to get a 5:00pm flight back to the states.

Is this reasonable or overly ambitious? Should I plan to spend the day in Strasbourg, take a 2pm train, spend the night at the airport and fly out the next morning? In this case, any suggestions for the most convenient lodgings at Charles de Gaulle?

While I’m asking, any suggestions for accommodations in Paris and Colmar for a solo female traveler? Any other thoughts, suggestions, advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I would do the overnight and stay at the airport. IMO, the most convenient airport lodging is the Sheraton in terminal 2.

  1. Unforeseen delay in the barge arrival in Strasbourg.
  2. Unforeseen delay getting off the barge.
  3. Unforeseen delay in traffic to the train station.
  4. Unforeseen delay in the train to CDG.

Thus JHK's advice to stay overnight at CDG and fly home the next morning.

Good advice above to at least be in Paris the night before your international flight back home. Rail strikes are relatively common in France and the last time I had a train ticket on a TGV train from Paris to Strasbourg, there was a strike that stopped about half of the high-speed trains from running.
If you miss your flight back home due to unforeseen circumstances, you need to evaluate what the potential cost could be in buying a replacement airline ticket at the last minute.

WOW, what a hive!! This place rocks!!

Thanks so much for the consensus opinion. Now I can book my air and make a reservation for a hotel at CDG.

Much appreciate y'all.
