flying from New York to Charles de Gaulle, and then onto Bordeaux . Looking on the site it seems fares are well upwards of 100 they quoted 180 one way. We are traveling in September so could not get the date checked departures in May and that’s what they quoted. How does the system work? I am thinking of flying..thoughts?

We do this route often. Either the train or flight works well. The deciding factor for me is usually price then timing. The train tickets for september won't be available for a few months. Download the SNCF app and sign up for alerts so that you know when they will go on sale. RT air fare between CDG and BOD is roughly 250 euro on average. I've seen it as high as 500 euro and as low as 175 euro. Hope this is helpful.
