Train booking December Paris Strasbourg Colmar book ahead?

We will be in the Alcace region December 11th -16. Do we need to book our trains now? A couple months ahead? Don’t worry about it?

Train tickets are like airline tickets. The closer you get to your travel dates, the higher the price goes. Tickets go on sale four months out. If you’re okay paying €200-300 RT then you can wait as long as you like.

In late May, round trip from Colmar to Strasbourg was just under 20€ per person. We just walked in the station and bought tickets. Trains were running about every hour.

Strasbourg to Colmar is rarely a problem. As has been said, they run every 30 minutes or so all day. The problem can arise with the Paris to Strasbourg leg. With Christmas markets in full swing, trains will be much more expensive the closer to your travel date you buy. And it's not unheard of for some to sell out, providing fewer options.

If you are going Paris-Strasbourg during this route's busiest time of year * which is *definitely** during the Christmas markets, indeed buy as soon as you can after ticket sales open !! Otherwise you will spend hundreds and hundreds of euros.

In November 2021, we landed at CDG and had less than a 3hr. wait in the train station and then headed to Strasbourg from there. Very easy from CDG. If that is your starting point. We booked about 4 months out and the 1st Class tickets were very reasonable.

Enjoy your trip.
