We will be in Versailles on July 13 and 14. We can leave Versailles via car either the afternoon/evening of July 14 (Bastille Day) to drive to Dijon or July 15. I am guesing that Friday, July 15 will be a nightmare on the roads going south. Would we be better leaving on July 14 midday/evening? I am also wondering if alcohol is a factor on Bastille Day (like it is on 7/4 in the US) and should we avoid highways on 7/14? Also, would it be better for us to stay off the Auto route du soleil and take back roads. If we leave on 7/15, we might like to stop by Fountainbleau on the way, so we could take some back roads.
