Tours to St-Pierre-des-Corps train stations

Need a little advice please...only way I could book tickets Paris to Tours round trip (on any website and I tried them all) was to book one way from Paris to Tours, then return St-Pierre-des-Corps to Paris. It seems that the Tours to St-Pierre-des-Corps leg is open seating, thus they won't issue electronic tickets. Not wanting to take a chance on snail mail, I decided to go ahead and book that way. On a Saturday evening in October, do we just go to Tours train station and buy tickets to St-Pierre-des-Corps, do we need to buy them earlier in the day, will the train be full, or will we need to take a taxi, which will hopefully be available? Thanks for sharing any experience you have!

Tours Centre, the train station, is little more than a mile from St Pierre des Corps.

As the SNCF expanded the TGV network, they wanted to make intermediate stops at traditional service points such as Tours, Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, etc. These stations were historically built as end points making intermediate stops time-consuming and inefficient. The solution was to build new stations allowing easy through service which is why we now have stations such as Aix-en-Provence TGV and Avignon TGV which are located just outside of town.

Rather than build a new TGV station to replace Tours Centre, the SNCF used St Pierre des Corps which was an existing maintenance/freight facility. St Pierre des Corps could just as well been called Tours TGV as it is probably closer to Tours than Avignon TGV is to Avignon or Aix TGV is to Aix-en-Provence.

There are a few TGVs which terminate at Tours Centre but most just stop at St Pierre des Corps and continue south or north to Paris. There is a TER train that shuttles between Tours Centre and St Pierre des Corps for those picking up TGVs. It´s a 3 to 4 minute ride and seats never sell out.

If your destination is Tours, you can use either station. Some places in Tours are actually closer to St Pierre des Corps than to Tours Centre itself.

You should be fine with what you have booked.

Just head to Tours station and catch the first train that goes to Saint Pierre des Corps (rememebring, of course, to buy a ticket first).

It's only a 4 minute journey, so even if its a small train and no seats are available it wont be a huge worry. There used to be a shuttle train, but that only runs for TGVs that don't near-coincide with scheduled services.
