Tours from Nice, need suggestions!

We will be a party of 4 spending 5 days in Nice. We will be there the beginning of October.

  1. One day I’d love to do a guided tour in Provence. In my mind’s eye, I see a wine tour stopping at one or 2 beautiful chateau’s for wine tasting and lunch, gorgeous charming scenery. Can anyone recommend something like that?

  2. I also see half day tours to Monaco and Eze, but I’ve read the trains make it easy to get there. I was thinking I don’t want to be rushed, so it would be easy just yo go on our own. Is that correct? I’d love to have lunch at Eze, I’ve read there is one beautiful restaurant with views there.

  3. We’d loved to do a cruise on the water stopping at St. Tropez or somewhere like that, ut can’t seem to find anything that time of year. Do they stop in October?

  4. Any other favorite things or yours you’ve done? I’d love to read about them.

Thanks!

Provence should be another trip not done from the Côte d’Azur. We last spent a two week trip in Provence. When I think of Provence, I never think of Chateaux, rather castles.
Trains and , even better, buses that travel along the water make touring this area around Nice very easy. Our last trip to Nice was for two weeks and we mostly toured by bus with a train to Antibes. We have been to Nice several times.
We have always skipped Eze, no interest, and Monaco’s Royal areas are interesting to see one time. Eze is way up in the hills but there is another town with Eze vin it’s name near the coast.
Our favorite towns to visit hands down are Antibes and St-Jean Cap Ferrat. We love the town of St- Jean there and visiting Villa Ephrussi.
Take a train to Antibes. It isn’t far from Nice. Also look at St-Paul de Vence and Vence. And stop in Villefrance sur Mer. However avoid Villefranche if cruise ships are mooring there.
St-Tropez is also fun to explore. Consider spending a night there. The beaches nearby are beautiful. Ramateulle near St-Tropez is also a good place to stay.
We love Nice and can spend countless hours hours exploring this formerly Italian city.

  1. There are plenty of sources for day tours that include winery visits. You could start with Get Your Guide, Viator, and TripAdvisor (all are 3rd party aggregators) then go to the actual tour provider to book.

  2. Those places are easily reached by public transportation and can be done on your own.

  3. Check the same 3rd party sources in 1 for day cruises/boat tours.

  1. There are a number of services that will take you on tours into the Var. I don't have a specific recommendation. There is also a region in Nice called Bellet but that is not what you are describing (a nice domaine and good views, but not quite the same)..
  2. Monaco is best reached by train or bus. Bus or Uber/Taxi/car is how to get to Eze le village (up high), versus Eze sur Mer which is down below, by the sea, where the train station is. There is an hours climb between the two (on a hiking trail).
  3. St. Tropez really shifts into a different mode in October. Trans Cote d"Azur runs the main ferry route. They only run three days in late October, for the "braderie" a type of market/shop clearance sale run before things shut down completely.
  4. You can take the ferries to the Lerins Islands -- St Honorat has a monastery and a winery. Take the train to Menton or Antibes. Take the bus to Cap Ferrat and the Villa Ephrussi or St. Paul de Vence. You can also take the bus or train to Villefranche-sur-Mer.

I would add A Taste of Nice and Wine tours. Ally is a terrific guide. We've done both her lunch and dinner tours. I think I like the lunch tour because she takes you out of old town for a part of the tour.
